Kamaile`unu Ridge separates Makaha and Wai`anae Valleys. It is one of the toughest hikes on O`ahu although not a really long hike. What makes it tough is the elevation gain. You begin at less than 100 feet above sea level and climb to approx 3200 feet. There are a few place where the trail dips and you lose at least 100 feet only regain it a few minutes later. Kamaile`unu Ridge runs all the way to the highest point on O`ahu, Mt. Ka`ala, but there is a VERY DANGEROUS section about 1/2 way to Ka`ala and few people go beyond.
